Is any money paid at all up front?

NO, Accident Car Rentals (ACR) provides the rental vehicle with insurance and taxes with no up front costs.  While your vehicle is being fixed or evaluated for a Total Loss, your insurance typically will transfer to the rental vehicle as a Substitute Vehicle.

How does Accident Car Rentals Collect from the insurance company?

Property damage polices from at fault insurance companies cover rental expenses.  After your vehicle rental period, the rental bill is submitted by ACR or your attorney to the insurance company responsible for the auto accident.  ACR has a Letter of Protection that states that any money collected from a Property Damage Carrier  will pay towards to rental.   No money would come out of any injury settlement from the renter's pocket in this case.

Besides collecting from a Property Damage insurance, is there any other insurance that ACR can collect from?

For a very small percentage of rentals, there may be a time that an additional coverage besides Property Damage coverage may be used to pay a rental bill.   For example, if there is damage to the rental vehicle caused during the rental period, the at fault property damage carrier will not cover the additional damage.  However, in the event Bodily Injury insurance is available, upon a settlement or other recovery is made, part of these proceeds may be used to pay for remaining rental bill.   There may be PIP benefits available as well to pay toward the rental.   ACR will attempt to solely collect just from the Property Damage Insurance whenever possible and this will occur the great majority of time.

What are additional damages that I may be liable for that Property Damage Insurance may not cover

Property damage insurance will cover your vehicle during the rental period.  The rental period is the time that your accident vehicle is repaired or total loss money is paid for the vehicle.

In the event you do not return the vehicle once your accident vehicle has been repaired or total loss paid, you may be responsible for the additional days.  Collection costs if the vehicle needs to be towed due to not returning the vehicle during the agreed rental period. Additional clean up fees for smoking in the vehicle or other types of damage that property damage insurance would not cover.
